Foundation Establishes Eight New Endowments

Donations Total More Than $500,000

The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation recently added eight plaques to its Endowment Wall at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, representing $539,000 collected in endowment funds since November 2006.

An endowment is established when a donation is given to the Foundation. The Foundation then uses the interest generated from the gift to support the endowment's designated charity or cause. To date, the Foundation has 53 established endowments.

"Our sole purpose is to support the West Tennessee community in whatever way we can. What makes the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation so unique is that we provide this endowment service to the community free of charge," said Frank McMeen, Foundation president. "Every penny donated will go to support the cause that has been chosen."

The new endowments include:

·         The Janelle and Walter Rein Endowment for Hospice established in memory of their parents.

·         The Tyler Swindle Classical Artist Fund created by the Jackson Symphony to support the organization's work.

·         The Evans - Rodgers Endowment for Hospitality Houses. Hospitality houses are reserved for those traveling more than 50 miles to Jackson to visit family members in critical care. This service is free, and there are currently seven hospitality houses.

·         The Rotary - Youth Town Endowment is one of two endowments established by the Jackson Rotary Club. This fund will benefit the young men and women at Youth Town of Tennessee.

·         The Jackson Rotary Club Endowment established to support its charitable work.

·         The Dr. Barnett Scott Endowment created by the Foundation's board in honor of Scott's dedication and two-year service as the Foundation chairman of the board.

·         The John Burton Tigrett Award Endowment will ensure outstanding Tennesseans continue to be recognized for their contributions to society. This endowment was built from a generous donation by Fred Smith, chairman, president and CEO of FedEx Corporation.

·         The LeRoy Neiman Endowment for the Arts provides funds for the arts in West Tennessee. Artist LeRoy Neiman is the contributor and prints of his famous painting of Andrew Jackson are sold by the foundation, with all proceeds contributed to this endowment.

The Foundation is the largest charity organization in West Tennessee outside of Memphis, and in 2006 it raised more than $2.7 million. For the past 22 years the Foundation has been serving the West Tennessee community through services in healthcare, education, and the arts, and has established chapters in Jackson, Humboldt, Trenton, Milan, Camden, and Bolivar.
