Endowment Established to Honor Doris "Cousin Tuny" Freeman

The West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation is pleased to announce an endowment has been established in honor of Doris "Cousin Tuny" Freeman for special needs children. The Foundation is making a $15,000 gift to establish this endowment. Cousin Tuny has given more than 40 years to, as she says, "God's special children" at the Cerebral Palsy Center.

Established by the West Tennessee Cerebral Palsy Association, the Cerebral Palsy Center has a rewarding history of service to disabled children and adults throughout the region. The West Tennessee Cerebral Palsy Association began in 1961 in a small house on Royal Street, where it served the needs of seven children. The Association has grown meeting the needs of more than 800 children each month throughout West Tennessee. The Association improves the quality of life of individuals with multiple disabilities by providing programs and services specific to their individual needs as well as providing an environment for socialization with peers.

The Center Director John Borden said, "If you could measure how much love Cousin Tuny has in her heart for ‘God's special children', it would be off the chart. Her sincere and unselfish involvement with the CP Center is incredible. She has had such a huge impact on the life of the Center and has touched the hearts of countless people. There is no way Cousin Tuny could ever be thanked enough for her many years of continuous love, support, and active involvement with the West Tennessee Cerebral Palsy Association. She is truly one of God's special servants."

"We want to recognize Tuny's life-long commitment to serving special needs children. This endowment is a way to give her some recognition that is so well deserved and help the children she loves so much," commented Foundation President Frank McMeen.
